Alex Ray Scott, Little is known about Scott, beyond his criminal record in Oklahoma. Reportedly, he worked for a property management company in Tulsa. In September 2018, Scott was charged with forcing a co-worker’s five-year-old son to perform oral sex. However, before the police could interview him, Scott quit his job, rented a car and fled the state. In October, Long Island police detained Scott, who was reportedly there “to commit suicide.” He was initially taken to a psychiatric ward, before being extradited to Tulsa.
In July 2019, a judge agreed to pay half of his bail at $ 100,000 if he agreed to wear an ankle monitor and SCRAM bracelet (to monitor alcohol use). According to Scott, he fled to Long Island “to escape” from the Tulsa case, but accepted the terms. An Oklahoma man who has been charged with killing an antiquarian in January 2020 returned to court on July 8. Alex Ray Scott, 24, is currently on trial in the Manhattan Supreme Court, where he has been charged with murder, grand theft, and criminal possession of the stolen property.
The brutal murder of Kenneth Savinski, 64, was part of an increase in reported crime in New York City. As the nation reopens and Covid-19 restrictions are lifted, crime rates have continued to rise across the United States. In March, Uber Eats driver Mohammed Anwar died after two minors tried to steal his vehicle before crashing. Then, in June, a California mother was arrested for the murder of her three children. In late June, a jealous husband was caught on video beating his wife with a crowbar to death at a New York bus stop.
By 2021, gun violence has already reached a 20-year high in New York, prompting city officials to declare a firearm crime emergency. Yet despite the best efforts, violence continues to shake the city streets almost daily. On January 27, 2020, a friend found Savinski dead in his 83rd Street apartment near Park Avenue. They found him with a deep cut on his head and wounds on his neck. A closer examination revealed that it was not an accident, Savinski was killed. Two days later, Scott walked into a Manhattan police station covered in blood and said, “I think I may have killed someone last night.”
He confessed some horrible details to the police, including that he had met Savinski on a dating app the day before. The older man then brought Scott home for a “romantic relationship”, which ended in his death. CCTV footage also captured Scott leaving the building, wearing Savinski’s jacket “and counting money in his injured hands.” He had also taken five credit cards and Savinski’s driver’s license. He used one of the cards to pay for a room in New Jersey, shortly before confessing to police.
Once Scott is prosecuted in New York, he will be extradited to Tusla to face lewd sexual abuse charges. The trial, which was initially scheduled for June 2020, has been delayed. A new date has not been announced yet, as the case in New York is still ongoing. Scott’s attorney, Jessica Horani, argued that she had no recollection of Savinski’s murder because he “may have been deliberately drugged,” the Daily Mail reported.
It is unclear how Scott has pleaded guilty to Savinksi’s murder and what happened at the July 8 court hearing. Horani has not responded to requests for comment.
