Gail Dews Wiki, Biography

Gail Dews, 56, was strangled to death and thrown into a ravine by her husband Stephen Dews when the two were hiking in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains. Stephen, however, tried to fool investigators by telling them that he fell on the ice and could not remember how his wife disappeared.

However, authorities found enough evidence to point out that Dews was lying, and he was found guilty in May 2015. Dews, who was sentenced to 16 years in prison, is currently serving his sentence at SCI Camp Hill in Pennsylvania.

The latest episode of Investigation Discovery’s Fatal Vows, titled Betting on Murder, will reveal the details of this tragic murder. The episode will air on January 5 at 6 p.m. m. ET.

The synopsis for the episode reads as follows:

“Gail and Stephen Dews have it all: a happy marriage, a beautiful home and healthy children, but a family tragedy and gambling addiction tear their lives apart, proving that nothing is as it seems.”

A Troubled Marriage And 2 Other Chilling Details About The Gail Dews Murder1) Blunt Force

Before being thrown into the ravine, Gail Dews was brutally attacked. Her autopsy report showed that she had multiple blunt-force injuries, including a fractured neck. These marks clearly pointed to homicide.

According to an eyewitness account who claimed to be present at the location where the couple was hiking, Stephen and Gail got into a heated argument which escalated to the point where Gail could be heard screaming. The same eyewitness also claimed that he saw a man whose appearance was similar to Stephen’s with Gail at the time of the aforementioned incident.

Stephen’s first account of the incident, which was also the story he wanted to sell, was that his wife was missing and he didn’t know how it happened, as he fell onto the ice and was knocked unconscious. But the truth couldn’t be hidden for long as investigators scrambled to put the missing pieces of the puzzle together and find the real culprit.

One day after the accident, Stephen went to a convenience store with blood on his hands and shirt. Stephen had no credible explanation for the bloodstain. Further investigation showed that the bloodstains belonged to both Stephen and Gail.

Stephen, just a month after his wife’s death, withdrew $135,000 from his joint account. This, along with the multiple injuries to Gail’s body, all but confirmed the authorities’ suspicion. According to Gail’s family, the couple had a troubled marriage. Her family even mentioned that Gail once talked about a breakup.

A few days later, in an interview, Gail’s sister, Karen Ann Giganti, told investigators that Stephen “was very jealous and controlling, and there were times when Gail talked to me about leaving Stephen.” Another witness who saw the couple at Dunkin Donuts before they began their walk revealed to police that Stephen was speaking to Gail loudly and disrespectfully that day.
