Justin McLaughlin was found seriously injured at Glasgow’s High Street station on Saturday afternoon after what police described as a “shocking act of violence. He was taken to the city’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police described the death of a 14-year-old boy last night as a “shocking loss of life.”
The station in the city center remained closed overnight while officers investigated the scene and trains were diverted. Scotland’s police have now confirmed that they are treating the death as murder and are appealing to any witnesses who can help with their investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Geddes of the Scotland Police Chief’s Investigation Team said: “Our thoughts remain with Justin’s family and friends. A murder investigation was launched into the death of a 14-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed at a train station.
Although the investigations are in an early stage, what we do know is that an incident occurred at the High Street train station and we are sure there will be people who have witnessed something before this. The area would have been busy with members of the public and commuters and we are urging those with information, no matter how small, to contact the police.”
British Transport Police Detective Inspector Marc Francey added: “This was a shocking act of violence in broad daylight, in which a child tragically lost his life. We are working closely with the Scottish Police and doing everything possible to find those responsible, and I urge any witnesses, or anyone who is in the area at the time and has seen something suspicious, to contact us. as soon as possible.
“We will also increase our uniformed patrols in the local area in the coming days to help reassure the traveling public.” Justin’s principal at St Ambrose High School in Coatbridge, James McParland, said: ‘The St Ambrose High School community is shocked and saddened by the death of Justin McLaughlin. ‘Justin was a valued member of our community and his loss will be felt by staff and students alike.
“Our prayers and thoughts are with his family and friends, and the youth at the school will have additional pastoral support available to them upon their return Monday morning.” The tragic aftermath of the incident is believed to have been witnessed by several passengers on trains passing through the station, connecting Queen Street with stations in Edinburgh, Lanarkshire and the East End of Glasgow.
One wrote on Twitter: ‘There was a boy lying on the platform. He had a lot of blood on his pants. Another witness joined the conversation to say: ‘From the train, it looked like a body covered by a sheet on the platform. “Let’s suppose it was not accidental, considering the more than 15 policemen on the platform, standing still.” One passenger suggested that the danger may have “passed” because things “seemed calm.” The person said he was writing that in hopes of reassuring those around him.
