Pete spent his childhood in Forest Lake, raised by his parents, Brian, and Penelope Hegseth. He went to Forest Lake Area High School, and after matriculating, enrolled at Princeton University. During his years at Princeton, Pete was the editor of the Princeton Tory, which is a conservative newspaper of the university run by students. It was in 2003 that he finished his studies, while ten years later he received a Master in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Career Beginnings
Right after university, Pete joined the investment bank Bear Stearns, as an equity capital markets analyst. Hewas also commissioned as a reserve infantry officer into the US Army National Guard, and a year late was called out for a mission to Cuba, meaning that he would need to leave his position at the investment bank. He was an infantry platoon leader, and for his efforts, Pete was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Pete then volunteered for a mission to Baghdad and Samarra, for which he received the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and another Army Commendation Medal. Return from the Army
Following his return from Iraq, Pete was again ready to find a place for himself in the corporate world; he joined the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, then after a couple of years he left the post and accepted the offer from Vets For Freedom to work as the executive director. He remained there for five years before leaving the post and founding his own political action committee MN PAC. Also, from 2012 to 2015, Pete was the executive director for Concerned Veterans for America, a political advocacy group created by the Koch brothers.

During his time at Concerned Veterans for America, Pete had his brother employed at the non-profit organization, and two years in a row paid him $108,000 and while on the political action committee MN PAC, he spent a third of the budget on Christmas parties for family and friends, and only less than half of the planned budget Pete spent on the candidates. Nevertheless, Pete is still an authority figure when it comes to veteran-concerned groups. Most recently, Pete was named as one of the possible successors to David’s Shulkin’s post as a US Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
