Stephan Gevorkian worked as a doctor at his own clinic, Pathways Medical, in Toluca Lake. There, he treated thousands of people,” a statement from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office states. A Southern California man treated thousands of patients, including people with cancer, without a medical license, prosecutors allege, until he was caught by an undercover investigator.
The “doctor” was discovered after an undercover officer visited the clinic in November and received a query in which Gevorkian “allegedly failed to accurately address abnormal levels of a hormone that could indicate a serious medical condition.”
Gevorkian has been charged with five counts of practicing medicine without a license. Lawyers for the man are rejecting the district attorney’s charges, saying: “Any suggestion that Mr. Gevorkian was posing as a doctor in an effort to mislead and treat unsuspecting patients is misleading and demonstrably false.”

On its social media pages, Pathways Medical describes itself as an alternative medicine provider specializing in intravenous vitamin therapy. According to prosecutors, Gevorkian saw patients with “serious conditions” for years, treating illnesses from viral infections to people with cancer.
“The company performs blood tests on patients, advises them on treatments, and offers treatments for serious conditions,” he read in a press release. The undercover officer entered the business on November 17, 2022, and received results that investigators say raised red flags.
The doctor and those in his office did not notice “abnormal levels of a hormone that could indicate a serious medical condition,” the statement said. It’s unclear what first caught the attention of police, however, a Yelp reviewer questioned the legitimacy of the doctor’s title several years ago.

“I think Dr. G is a fraud,” Yelp reviewer Nicole B. wrote in 2021. ‘The only thing ‘correct’ with my blood work was my vitamin D level. WHAT THE HELL? I’m sitting here looking at my treatment estimate which maxes out at just under 5K… I ran,” the woman wrote. “So that’s my story about Dr. G…don’t be fooled into supporting this office and these rude people,” she continued.
By all other accounts, the ‘doctor’ was beloved in his community. Since 2019, Pathways has received dozens of glowing patient reviews and currently has a 4.5-star rating on Yelp. ‘This place is amazing. They really know what they are doing and DrG is a game changer in the natural world,” one person wrote in February.
“This company is amazing,” another reviewer wrote. ‘The doctor was very kind and he understood my concerns.’ ‘I’ve been coming here for years and I can’t say enough good things about Dr.G and his staff. They go above and beyond and provide unmatched results and services,” said one woman in 2019.
The five-star reviews did not stop the investigation and complaint against Gevorkian, which was filed on April 19. Gevorkian’s lawyers were later notified of the arrest warrant. Gevorkian was arraigned on the charges against him on Friday and later released on his own recognizance on the condition that he does not practice medicine. Gevorkian was never arrested, a DA spokesman told local media.
“The unlicensed practice of medicine is not only criminal activity in California, but can cause irreparable harm to the health of unsuspecting individuals, some with serious illnesses, who believe they are under the care of a licensed physician,” said District Attorney George Gascón.
Gevorkian’s attorney, Justin E. Sterling, told ABC7 Los Angeles: “Criminal charges, by their very nature, are unproven allegations.” “It is important to recognize that what is thought to be known or understood at the outset is not always so at the end. Mr. Gevorkian is complying with all court orders and he looks forward to vigorously defending himself against these allegations.”
Gevorkian will appear before a judge on May 24 for his first hearing. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office is currently searching for additional victims. Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of this incident should also call the Consumer Protection Hotline at 213-257-2465.
