Stephen Dews Wiki, Biography

Gail and Stephen Dews were hiking in March 2013 when the former went missing. The only person who seemed to know of her whereabouts was her husband, Stephen. However, she claimed that she did not remember the moment when his wife disappeared while he fell on the ice.

The authorities investigated the case and it was revealed that Stephen strangled Gail and then threw her into a ravine. Stephen thought it would be difficult for investigators to get to the bottom of the case, but he was killed by a witness.

Stephen was convicted of the murder of his wife and sentenced to 16 years in prison. He is currently incarcerated at SCI Camp Hill in Pennsylvania. The latest episode of Investigation Discovery’s Fatal Vows, titled Betting on Murder, will take a look at the details of this tragic murder. The episode will air on January 5 at 6 pm.

The synopsis for the episode reads as follows:

“Gail and Stephen Dews have it all: a happy marriage, a beautiful home and healthy children, but a family tragedy and gambling addiction tear their lives apart, proving that nothing is as it seems.”

How did Stephen Dews carry out the murder?

Although Stephen and Gail seemed like the perfect couple on the outside, there were issues that the others weren’t aware of. Just before Stephen threw Gail into the ravine, the two got into a heated argument. A witness saw the couple fight and also heard Gail’s scream. He saw someone, whose physical appearance matched Stephen’s, fighting with Gail.

According to investigators, Stephen strangled Gail before throwing her into the ravine. However, when Stephen was questioned about the murder, he had a different story to tell. He told police that he had accidentally fallen on the ice and lost consciousness. As a result, he did not remember where his wife had gone.

Several accounts proved that his story was false.

One day after killing his wife, Stephen went to a convenience store where he barely interacted with anyone for a while. When the store manager insisted, he blurted out that he had been in an accident.

The store manager also noticed blood stains on her hand and on his shirt. When the police got involved in the case, Stephen first told the false story about him. But his version of his story about the position of the victim’s body did not match the position in which the body was discovered.

After retrieving Gail’s body from the bottom of the gorge, investigators found multiple blunt force injuries, contradicting Stephen’s version of the story. An autopsy report also revealed that Gail suffered a broken neck before falling into the ravine and ruled the case a possible homicide. This was enough evidence to bring charges against Stephen.

Also, a month after Gail’s death, Stephen transferred $135,000 from her joint account to his. Gail’s family also reported that there were a number of marital problems the couple was having and Gail even considered a possible separation at one point.
