Stephon Jamar Duncan Wiki – Stephon Jamar Duncan Biography
Stephon Jamar Duncan is a Delta Airlines flight attendant who had to be stopped in the air by crew members and other passengers while traveling off-duty on a flight from Los Angeles to Atlanta, authorities said. The plane was diverted to Oklahoma City and Duncan was arrested, reports ABC News. Duncan, 34, remains in detention after the incident on Friday, June 11, 2021.
Oklahoma City Police spokesman Jermaine Johnson told ABC News that Duncan threatened to “shoot down the plane.” According to police, Duncan made “terrorist threats.” Police told ABC News that Duncan was showing signs of mental illness and was taken to the hospital after complaining of chest pain.
Delta Airlines issued a statement saying: “Thank you to the crew and passengers of Delta Flight 1730 (LAX to ATL) who helped detain a rogue passenger when the flight was diverted to Oklahoma City (OKC). The aircraft landed without incident and the passenger was removed by the police. We apologize to our customers for the delay and any additional inconvenience this caused. ”Delta said the flight continued to Atlanta after police searched the plane.

The flight crew asked all “strong men”
One passenger on the flight, Ali Burns, tweeted: “Someone tried to hijack our plane from LAX to ATL. … The man announced that we had to be near our oxygen masks and proceeded to try to open the door. Then they called all the “strong men” to the front of the plane to stop it. We ended up landing in OKC as it was the closest airport to us. “Burns later added:” Update: I was trying to open the door to the outside, not the cabin. “A video posted by Burns shows a struggle in the front of the airplane.

According to Wired, it is impossible for a person to open the door of an airplane in the air. Michele Meo, professor of materials at the University of Bath, told Wired: “It cannot be opened because the aircraft is pressurized and the cabin pressure is higher than the outside air pressure. The difference can reach 55158.1 Newtons per square meter (or 5500 kg applied to one square meter). Basically the door is sealed against the frame of the plane. ”
Darren Genet, one of the passengers who attended, told ABC News that there was a “fight” and that he and other passengers “swooped in” to help contain Duncan. “We held him and he was screaming and crying,” Genet told the news network. “And then one of the gentlemen on the flight was a Marine, and he came in and they tied the restraints on us, and we kind of held him down until we put the restraints on. By then he was already apologizing. “An off-duty pilot also helped, according to ABC News.
Genet added: “It was pretty scary. We were really lucky to have been able to take this guy down. ”
Denton told WSB-TV: “The passenger who caused the problem was challenged all the time. He boarded the flight. He was wearing a helmet. Really strange behavior. He walked to the front and picked up the PA system, knew exactly what to do and made this announcement: “Hey, everyone will put on the oxygen mask because he is preparing for a lot of turbulence on this flight.”
The air disruption involving Duncan is the latest in a series of airborne incidents that have occurred since air travel increased amid easing restrictions and COVID-19 fears. A week before the Duncan incident, a flight from LAX to Detroit was diverted due to a passenger making threats, authorities said. And earlier that week, a flight attendant and passengers had to restrain and zip a man who tried to break into the cabin doors. In late May, a Southwest flight attendant was attacked by a passenger, leaving her bloodied with two broken teeth.

Another passenger, Brannon Nazarian, told NBC Los Angeles that an advertisement on the plane read: “This is the captain speaking. We would like all the strong men to come to the front of the plane to handle a troublesome passenger. “Nazarian told the news station:” The next thing I knew, there were people running to the front, and he started pushing people, and there was a fierce fight. He was fighting them extremely hard. His feet were flying in the air. The flight attendant was … it looked like he had a concussion. ”
Benjamin Curlee told CNN: “I feared the worst. I prayed that God would protect my family in case I left. He was very tense, very adrenaline-pumping. “Curlee told CNN that Duncan was described by other passengers as” very chaotic, very strange … very incoherent. “Curlee said Duncan was wearing a helmet, knee, and elbow pads.
“I was hoping to sleep on that flight and that didn’t happen,” Curlee told CNN. “He feels very surreal … It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event. It’s something you really always have in the back of your head, like wondering if this will happen. Well, today it really did. I am very grateful that it did not end badly ”.
