Sugar and Spice, the Los Angeles-based drag star twins of TikTok fame, will appear on the upcoming season of RuPaul’s Drag Race this year on MTV, making them the show’s first biological sibling duo to participate in the drag contest. Season 15 of the show is scheduled to premiere on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 8 p.m. m. ET.

The well-known drag queen sibling duo have more than 7.5 million followers on TikTok, making them the personalities with the largest fan base to appear on the show, even before the series begins. Sugar and Spice, along with other contestants, will battle it out for a cash prize of $200,000, the largest amount of proceeds to be sent to this upcoming franchise.

Sugar and Spice become the first identical twins to appear in any series in the Drag Race franchise.

Of the 16 drag queens set to perform this season, the twins have garnered particular attention since their arrival was announced. Sugar and Spice are 23 years old and reside in Los Angeles, California, but hail from Long Island, New York.

Luca (Sugar) and Cooper (Spice) Coyle have admired drag queens since they were children. According to a 2021 Vogue report, the duo morphed into Sugar and Spice after their TikTok entry in December 2018. Since then, their fans have been mesmerized by the early 2000s aesthetic they employ, reminiscent of to skirts and mesh tops. along with the contoured tracksuits.

In an interview with Vogue, Spice stated:

“We were obsessed with dolls growing up. In high school, we made our dolls into our little models and photographed them. Now, we do the same thing, except we are the canvas.”
To this, Sugar added:

“It was more like we realized that we’ve been doing drag our whole lives without realizing it. We practically came out of the womb with plastic heels and blankets wrapped around our head, pretending it was our own hair.”

The brothers derive their names, Sugar and Spice, from the 200-year-old English children’s song What Are Little Children Made Of?, in which one of the verses read:

“What are girls made of? Sugar and spice and all the good stuff.”
Additionally, the popular cartoon series The Powerpuff Girls later popularized the phrase by using it to describe the three components that make “the perfect girl.”

Sugar and Spice fans like to see the two drag performers bicker and joke around in their videos. The brothers have also held contests where they build two different looks to see which one gets the most likes to capitalize on their humorous bickering.

What to expect from RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15?

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15 will feature Sugar and Spice and 15 other new drag queens vying for the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar.” They will face off in several rounds of competition in front of judges RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Ts Madison, Ross Mathews and Carson Kressley.

Additionally, Ali Wong, Amandla Stenberg, Harvey Guillén, Hayley Kiyoko, Julia Garner, Janelle Monáe, Maren Morris, Megan Stalter and Orville Peck appear as special judges, along with guest judge and pop star Ariana Grande.

RuPaul’s Drag Race is set to reduce the length of the first episode to 60 minutes, due to MTV’s supposed “oversized” two-part format premiere, which is a rollover of the 90 minutes per episode in previous seasons. Also, the show changed its network to present its six seasons on VH1 earlier.
