Authorities say Graber was attacked by teenagers at a park where she often walked after school. She gave Miller a failing grade, which became the motivation for the murder.

The 17-year-old is a student at Fairfield High School. According to a November 2022 court document, Miller admitted to investigators that he was “frustrated” by Graber’s grade, which had a negative impact on her GPA. Miller initially denied knowing about the murder. However, he later claimed that “a roving gang of masked children” had forced him to help hide Graber’s body and leave the scene in her truck.

Miller admitted responsibility for him in court on Thursday and apologized to the Graber family before taking her punishment.

“I would like to apologize for my actions, first and foremost to the family,” he said. “I am sincerely sorry for the anguish I have caused you and the devastation I have caused your family.”

In addition, Miller offered his apology to the Fairfield neighborhood, his own family, the Goodale family, and the police.

“I’m realizing the magnitude of my actions, and I know it’s wrong and I knew it was wrong and I still carried it out,” he said. “I still did what I did, and I accept responsibility for that.”
